What do I do if I am called to active-duty service?

If you are required to report for active-duty service while enrolled at UCSD, you may work with your professors to complete your coursework at a later date (i.e. taking “I” incomplete grades). If you determine that you need to withdraw from the quarter completely, make sure to inform your college Dean's office of your activation and send a message to vao@ucsd.edu

When you are ready to return to UCSD, please consult your college and then submit a request to request a return UCSD. Please contact vao@ucsd.edu with a copy of your official orders once your request to return to UCSD is processed so that we can reverse the $70 fee.

Do I qualify for priority enrollment appointments?

Undergraduate veterans, reservists, and active-duty service members can email their COE, DD-214, copy of their Military ID card, or other qualifying document to vao@ucsd.edu and we will add you to the priority enrollment list which begins on your second quarter at UCSD. Please redact your SSN from any documentation before emaling it to us.

Dependent students do not qualify for priority enrollment appointments.

Note: Priority enrollment appointments are not necessary for graduate students, as their enrollment appointments are assigned by their program departments.

How do I use the DoD Tuition Assistance program (TA) at UCSD?

Student Financial Solutions (SFS), specifically the “Third Party Payments” department, processes all TA programs. Submit your authorization documents to SFS by following the directions on their website,

Our office can assist with DoD Tuition Assistance by reporting your grades at the end of a term, or if your courses needed to be added to your military branches’ TA web portal. Please email our office at vao@ucsd.edu as soon as you receive your final grades for each term.
