Back by popular demand! Explore the wonders of the ocean at the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography during Family Weekend! Experience the inner workings of what it takes to keep more than 5,000 live marine specimens happy and healthy. The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.

What is Medical School really like? Hear from a panel of UC San Diego medical students about their real-life experiences in medical school. You have entrusted the health of your student to us...now come and meet us! Come and meet our Medical Director, Dr. Gina Fleming; talk with a Registered Dietitian about any eating concerns, or get your insurance questions answered by one of our insurance staff. We will have someone from Counseling and Psychological services providing free biofeedback, and some of our trained Student Health Advocates (SHAs) providing important information on how to stay healthy during flu season. The SHAs will also discuss how your student can become an SHA and be involved in this exciting student organization. There will be games, give-aways and tours of the Student Health Center. Whole Foods Markets, Chef Scott Reed will educate and entertain our Triton families as he prepares easy snacks and nutritious meals for the busy student. On the menu will be; Portabella mushroom burgers, grilled quesadillas with salsa and sour cream and a no bake, no fat, creamy fruit dessert. Chef Scott will demonstrate the recipes and there will be samples for everyone. An easy and delicious, high protein raw foods candy will also be made and tasted. Transportation: To take part in the Whole Foods Cooking Class and Value Tour, families are expected to arrange their own transportation. If you do not want to drive to Whole Foods, consider taking public transportation. Students ride for free with an MTS sticker on their UCSD Student ID. Busses that stop near the Whole Foods store and shopping center are the UTC/VA Hosp via Pacific Beach / La Jolla / UCSD #30 and Super Loop - UCSD via UCSD Medical Center #201. Both bus lines can pick up/drop off family members at the intersection of Gilman and Myers. Family members will want to stop at Nobel and La Jolla Village Square Driveway. These busses come approximately every 20 minutes and the ride takes approximately 5 minutes.
Each year over 1000 undergraduate students participate in economics experiments. Economic theories are tested and new ones are created, pushing the boundaries of economic science. The EconLab invites families to drop by for a fun and interesting few minutes. Rolling tours and demonstrations will take place at the Economics Department right on Ridge Walk (at the Sky Bridge!). The UC San Diego Outback Adventures Climbing Center is a custom-built indoor facility that offers a wide range of routes for all levels of climbers. The expert staff can work with the first-time climber, as well as the more experienced climber. Whether it is your first climbing experience or you are a seasoned veteran, you are sure to find a multitude of exciting climbs to challenge you. Check it out!
The Climbing Center is happy to provide a climbing experience for family members 7 years of age and older. Parents/Guardians must be present to sign a waiver for minor participation. The Climbing Center is the only recreation facility at UC San Diego that allows individuals under 18 years of age to use the facility.

In walking through the UC San Diego campus, who has not been struck by the colorful exuberance of the Sun God? Installed in 1983 this statue created by Niki de Saint Phalle, was the first art work commissioned for UCSD, and has become a favorite with students and community alike. Join the Friends of the International Center to learn about the influence of famed Spanish artist, Antoni Gaudì, on the work of de Saint Phalle from local artist Arline Paa. In addition, Mary Beebe, Director of the Stuart Collection will share her experience working with de Saint Phalle.
Heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine, and dessert will be served.
All proceeds will benefit The Friends of the International Center Scholarship Program which last year donated $57,000 to international and domestic UCSD students.

UC San Diego violinist János Négyesy directs his popular Soirée for Music Lovers, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. The concert features classical music from the 18th and 19th centuries, performed by Négyesy and his talented young proteges from Department of Music. Négyesy, now in his 30th year at UCSD, is a world-renowned musician who has recorded and performed pieces by prominent composers including John Cage, Morton Feldman, Vinko Globokar, and Pulitzer Prize-winner Roger Reynolds (another UCSD music faculty member). This will be the first Soirée performed in the Department of Music's new 400-seat Conrad Prebys Concert Hall, which is regarded is one of the best small halls in the world.
