
Meet the 2009-2010 Express to Success (ETS) peer educators.
Chris Gauthier is a third year cognitive science (neuroscience) major and critical gender studies minor at Revelle College. Chris plays rugby with the UCSD club team, learns about "trippy science-like" topics, plays with Cloe and Scooby Doo (miniature pinschers), works out, meditates, and writes.
Chris has been involved in ETS programs such as PRONTO, CommunicateUCSD!, and the public speaking seminar. Chris presented at CommunicateUCSD!, worked as a peer educator, and co-taught an interpersonal communication seminar. Chris is also involved in the Cognitive Science Student Association and the UCSD LGBT Resource Center. Health, balance, family, and education are important to Chris. Contact Chris.
Rachel Arment is a second year international studies major at Muir College and has completed the ETS public speaking seminar. Friends say that Rachel is "chill but crazy" (Rachel hopes that's a good thing!), and Rachel gets along with a wide variety of people.
Rachel enjoys tennis, traveling, the beach, the mountains, music, knitting, catching up on favorite TV shows, and going on spontaneous adventures. Rachel has a passion for helping people who want to improve, and is part of the Community Law Project, Voices for Planned Parenthood (VOX), and the Triton Club Tennis Team. Michael Chan is a second year electrical engineering major at Sixth College who also works for UCSD Housing, Dining, and Hospitality. Michael thrived in the Triton Success Program and still made time to play basketball, hang out, listen to music, and exercise. He is a self-described workaholic.
Michael was born in New Jersey, but lived in Taiwan for 7 years. Family, friends, and working are important to Michael. Singing the blues always helps Michael feel better. Contact Michael.
Betty Chow is a fourth year international studies and economics major at Eleanor Roosevelt College. Betty has been involved with the ETS interpersonal communication and public speaking seminars. Denice Louie Duque De Leon, aka Dee, is a second year applied mathematics major at Thurgood Marshall College who has completed the ETS interpersonal communication and the public speaking seminars.
Denice loves teddy bears, elephants, rainbows, music, food, and taking pictures. Other hobbies include learning to play the piano, learning to dance hip-hop, and writing poetry and short stories. Kevin Mengjun Dong is a fourth year pharmacology chemistry major at Warren College, and has a passion for dancing and going out. Kevin loved the Triton Success Program and also loves being on UCSD Dancesport. Deborah Hayman is a second year urban studies and planning major and environmental studies minor at Eleanor Roosevelt College. Deborah has completed the ETS interpersonal communication seminar.
Deborah's hobbies include hiking, camping, making collages, traveling, attempting to cook, acting, reading, being a pseudo-photographer, bike-riding, being classy, and trying new things. Four words that describe Deborah are energetic, adventurous, creative, and "loves learning." Contact Deborah.
Rachel Jang is a second year human biology major at Revelle College. Rachel is also involved in the Revelle Hall Association and Welcome Week Committee, InterVarsity, and is an Admit Day Ambassador.
Rachel's hobbies include playing piano, exercising, dancing, yoga, cooking, shopping, volunteering, and hanging out with friends. Rachel has completed the ETS interpersonal communication seminar and says, "I am an optimistic and positive person. I'm a good listener and give good feedback. Kasey Kipping is a fourth year international relations and Japanese studies major at Muir College. Kasey completed the ETS public speaking and interpersonal communication seminars.
Kasey loves kayaking, biking, reading, dancing, music, cooking, movies, the beach, learning, smiling, languages, being with friends and family, meeting new people, and being vegetarian. Kasey is involved with the Japanese Student Association (JSA), Passport to Leadership, and the Nikkei Student Union. Vashisht Madabhushi is a second year bioengineering (pre-med) major at Revelle College who has completed the ETS interpersonal communication and public speaking seminars. Vashisht's hobbies include running, reading novels, community service, spending time with family, meeting new people, and creating new bonds. Scott Natsuhara is a second year political science major and economics minor at Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC) and has completed CommunicateUCSD! and the Triton Success Program. Planning to attend law school and graduate school for public policy, Scott is also the professional development chair of Phi Alpha Delta — a pre-law fraternity at UCSD — and is the executive and policy representative for ERC's Student Council. Alexis Pammit is a second year human biology major and psychology minor at Revelle College. Alexis's hobbies include playing guitar, eating, and watching movies.
Alexis joined ETS to, "help people learn about the importance of communication," and has completed the Triton Success Program and CommunicateUCSD! Alexis is also a Preuss School tutor, a Biobridge mentor, a member of Pre-medical Association of Student for Service (PASS), Hughes Scholars Program (HSP), and Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD), and a lab assistant in Dr. DeMaio's lab in the School of Medicine.
