Tax Outreach Program

Find resources to assist you with your 2008 federal or state income taxes, or volunteer to help with the program.

Note: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is on hiatus for the 2008 tax season. Although volunteers won't be preparing tax returns on campus, Student Legal Services offers this new tax outreach program to help taxpayers identify resources and locate assistance with 2008 tax returns. Student Legal Services is exploring the possibility of bringing VITA back to campus in 2009-2010, and continues to partner closely with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Help for taxpayers

UC San Diego's tax outreach program is available to students and community members from Feb. 15 to April 15, 2009. You can:

• Find current tax publications, booklets, and forms in the Student Legal Services office
• Call (858) 822-2414, a tax hotline for referrals to area VITA sites and other IRS and California Franchise Tax Board resources
• E-mail your tax-related inquiries to taxinfo@ucsd.edu

Volunteers will also be distributing forms and publications on Library Walk twice weekly. Check back in early February 2009 for the latest information and a full schedule of programs.

Student volunteers needed

Student Legal Services (SLS) needs 8-10 student volunteers to work on this season's Tax Outreach Program, a community-service learning project.

Volunteers will be selected near the start of Winter Quarter, and your training begins in January. From February to April, you'll gain valuable experience as you assist students and community members. You'll support the program's success by helping with a variety of projects, including distribution of resources, staffing the hotline, marketing, and outreach.
