Creating the plan:
The 2002-2007 Student Affairs Strategic Plan (PDF) was prepared over a 4-year period by Vice Chancellor - Student Affairs Joseph W. Watson and the Vice Chancellor - Student Affairs Council.
Plan summary:
The strategic plan outlines Student Affairs's mission and goals and provides a strategic approach to accomplishing identified action plans. The plan evaluates and assumes the importance of the following trends:
- Enrollment growth
- External factors (state funding, parent involvement, and community relationships)
- Demographic changes in the student population
- Changes in student needs and expectations
- Evolving technology
- Human resources/ staff development
In response to these anticipated trends, the Student Affairs Strategic Plan sets specific goals and action plans for the organization to:
- Attract and enroll students of the highest academic capability who are representative of the diversity of the people of California.
- Facilitate the retention, academic advancement, and graduation of students.
- Strengthen the development of interpersonal, leadership, communication and personal skills that enhance academic performance, student learning, and the achievement of career aspirations.
- Provide experiences that support the preparation of students for leadership in their chosen fields in the global community.
